Effective April 1, 2024, the University revised Rule R5-200A and R5-200B to no longer require partners or spouses who are University of Utah Hospitals and Clinics or campus staff members to split the paid parental leave benefit. In addition, this change adds two unpaid leave provisions to the University of Utah Hospitals and Clinics rule that are current practices.
Recently Revised Regulations
Effective February 13, 2024, and in response to feedback, Policy 6-300 has been updated to better reflect the process for the selection of Distinguished Professors. The edits remove outdated practices, add a high level overview of the procedure, and reorganize existing language.
Effective for the 2024-25 academic year, the University revised Policy 6-002, following a May 2023 vote by the Academic Senate to allow more flexibility to areas of representation in electing more than one career-line faculty representative for areas that desire to do so. Areas that would like to use this new option will need a written election plan to assign someone to ensure that at least 50% of those elected are tenure-line faculty. Representatives from respective areas on the Academic Senate Personnel & Elections Committee are available for assistance. Elections using this new option will start March 1, 2024. In addition to this change, Policy 6-002 was also editorially updated to include a policy scope, reorganization of information to be consistent with policy template, and to remove outdated terms.
Effective February 13, 2024, Policy 6-304 has been editorially updated to reflect current practice, to correct outdated information, and to remove the numerical references of faculty representatives/colleges. In addition, a purpose and scope has been added and headings were updated to reflect what the section covers. This policy had not been revised since May of 1999.
Effective February 13, 2024, the University revised Policy 6-404 to make permanent the practice of allowing undergraduate applicants to decide whether to submit ACT/SAT score for admissions to the University. This practice has been in place on a temporary basis since 2020.
