6-002: The Academic Senate and Senate Committees: Structure, Functions, Procedures

The following changes were made to Policy 6-002: The Academic Senate and Senate Committees: Structure, Functions, Procedures, which will take effect on June 15, 2023: Addition of a Utah Asia Campus (UAC) faculty representative to the Academic Senate Update of the transparency language allowing for all members of University of Utah community and members of the public to attend full Academic Senate meetings Allow the ASUU President to designate an ASUU Vice President to attend the Academic Senate Executive Committee on their behalf.

Changes to Employee Leave Benefits

Effective November 8, 2022, the University made several revisions to rules related to employee leave benefits, including: increasing the amount of paid time for staff parental leave for parents of children born on or after January 1, 2023 (Rule R5-200B for University of Utah Hospitals and Clinics (UUHC) staff members and Rule R5-200A for all other staff members) adding paid bereavement leave in the case of miscarriage or stillbirth (Rule R5-200B for UUHC staff members and Rule R5-201A for all other employees) creating a program for non-UUHC employees (primarily staff) to donate accrued vacation leave to employees who have a medical emergency (Rule R5-200A)

Policy 5-300: University Holidays

Effective November 8, 2022, the University revised Policy 5-300: University Holidays to add Juneteenth National Freedom Day to the list of University holidays. The University also revised Rule R5-301A to move the observation days for holidays that fall on a weekend to Policy 5-300.

Policy 7-013: Copyright Policy: Copying of Copyrighted Works

Effective October 11, 2022, Policy 7-013: Copyright Policy: Copying of Copyrighted Works Section E-Copying by University Libraries discontinues reliance on the CONTU Copyright Guidelines in evaluating Interlibrary Loan activity. Instead the University will review copyright based on U.S. Copyright Law Title 17 Section 108 and pay copyright fees based on that review. This change impacts the interlibrary loan departments from the three campus libraries: Spencer S. Eccles Health Sciences Library, James E. Faust Law Library and the J. Willard Marriott Library, but does not change the process or resources available to the campus community through Interlibrary Loan.

Policy 7-100: University Research Committees

Effective October 11, 2022, the University revised Policy 7-100: University Research Committees to meet federal requirements related to the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee and the Institutional Review Board.
