College Council Charters--Supplemental Resources for Policy 6-003

Effective Date: July 3, 2019

Under Policies 6-001 and 6-003, a college council is established for each academic college (or library equivalent) within the University, and such college councils have significant roles in the shared governance of academic matters at the University. In addition to the University Regulations governing establishment and functions of college councils, each college council is governed by a specific college council charter approved ultimately by the Academic Senate Executive Committee. Beginning in 2012 the Executive Committee noted that many charters were significantly outdated and some councils had become nearly inactive, and so a project was begun to update charters and ensure an appropriate active role for councils within the overall system of shared governance at the University. Further information about the approval process and status of current charters may be obtained through the University Office for Faculty, 801-581-8763.
